How parents should use Tummy Tub

The baby can be supported in three ways when using tummy tub. The parent can either support the baby at the back of the neck, just below the chin or through holding them under the armpits. There is no need to support the lower half of the baby’s body because the curved bottom of the tub would be able to do that. When the baby reaches about 12-16 weeks or once the baby can support their own neck, the parent can have both hands free to do the washing. Even if the baby is already strong enough to stand, it is important the baby is watched at all times during bath time. There is no need to support the lower half of the body because the walls of the tub would be able to support the baby’s weight with the help of the water. The amount of water needed for tummy tub to be used depends on the size of the infant. The important thing to remember is to keep the water level high enough to cover the baby’s shoulders. However, it could be even lesser when the baby gets older. The tummy tub can be used for babies below 3 years old. It is important to prepare all the bathing supplies before putting the baby in the tummy tub. The bathing time should be done as quickly as possible without putting stress on the baby. After the bath, wash the tummy tub with a mild detergent and hang to dry. Drying is important so it would not encourage bacterial growth because of the moisture.
